This week in real estate: Big changes for Ontario Place, Canary Block Condos beginning to take shape, and some excitement for what’s to come for the market.

 

Massive green space proposed at Ontario Place.


A huge new public green space approximately the size of 14 football fields is coming to Toronto’s waterfront.

In a release on Tuesday, the province announced that it is going ahead with the planning and design of Celebration Common on the East Island of Ontario Place – a 20-acre flexible green space for open-air festivals, events and recreation in downtown Toronto.

Preliminary site activity underway for Canary Block Condos.


The initial buildout of Toronto’s West Don Lands created an Athletes’ Village for the 2015 Pan Am Games. After the event, it was converted into the city’s newest neighbourhood. In the time since the “Canary District” was born, developer DundeeKilmer has been gearing up for the next phases of development, and has now started construction for a building to be known as Canary Block Condos.

Canadians are starting to get excited about real estate again.


It’s been quite the year for the Canadian real estate market, with industry observers worrying about a housing bubble one day, and excess regulation the next.

But according to one poll, Canadians are getting optimistic about real estate heading into the new year.

The Bloomberg and Nanos Research Canadian Confidence Index has found that optimism in the national real estate market has surged in the last month.
